Life sketch of Shri Thakur Ji Maharaj
Most worshipable Gurudeva Sri Thakur Sri Chand Ji was born to Sri Thakur Ganga Vishnu and Mata Raj Karni, a divine pair, symbolizing purity, devotion, chastity and divinity on 10th September, 1910 in an obscure village Distt. Gujrat in Pakistan. The child was lovingly called Brij Bhushan. He was richly endowed with supreme virtues and noblest attributes. Hardly eight years old he was blessed with a distinct vission of Radha Vallabh (Lord Krishna) which left an indelible imprint upon his mind and heart and he saw his divine-image in all the creation, in all forms and figures. He fondled a kitten day and night, kissing his curly face and feeding him with his own hands and made him sleep with him on hid own bed. When rebuked for the unhygienic hobby, he sternly replied, “ BelovedFather, I see the Lord in the kitten also, as you had yourself told me that the Lord resides in all the creation.”
He was hardly of Ten Years when his father left for the heavenly abode. His elder brother Sri Thakur Tej Bhan succeeded his father but his life span was very short, he expired in1928, hence Sri Thakur Chand was forced to give up his studies at Government College, Lahore incomplete and assume the responsibilities of looking after the spiritual ministry. He soon plunged deep in austerities and various spiritual practices and was soon blessed by the divine vision of the Supreme Mother who administered him the divine ‘Mantra’. He was so much enraptured by the divine grace that they used to say: “ Lord Shiva is my real father.” He is my preceptor and my true Gurudeva.
He was married to Pujya Mata Kailash Wati on 27th February, 1932. The young couple went to pay obeisances to their diety Bankey Bihari at varindaban, Mathura where he consecrated his spouse at the lotus feet of the Lord.
During his active ministry he preached universal religion, unalloyed spiritualism and freely loved all. He not only practised the different schools of Hindu philosophy but also different religious beliefs and faiths. He practised Mohammedan and Christian codes of worship remaining completely forgetful of the Hindu idols, dieties and their scriptures. Members of his family, including his wife was completely surprised and stunned at his unconventional and untraditional practises, which helped him to pass through most difficult practises and realized unity and harmony of all religions.
He gave up his conventional dress of chooridar pyjama and achkin and turban and wore kurta and tehmad practising silence, using sparse words, always busy reciting holy hymns from the Quran or Persian and Arabian couplets, bolting his apartment from inside. Most of time he was busy performing Namaz like devout Muslim.
At the time of partition in 1947, he migrated to Delhi and in 1949 accepting ferventrequests and supplications of some of his devotees aspirants he shifted his residence to Lal Bagh, near Azadpur (on Karnal Road), where many sought his divine benign refuge, proclaiming him as their Gurudeva and divine torch bearer. He showered eternal love and gave protection to all, big or small, rich or poor, transcending all limitations and barriers of religion caste, creed, colour and cult.
To plough the seeds of love and purity, he organised many Yajans and Akhand Pathas of Sri Ramcharita Manas. He organised spiritual retreats at Garhmukteshwar, each lasting about a month, and at Sapta-Sarovar Ashram near Haridwar on Vyas Puja days. Invariably they were a marvellous feast of the souls and elicited high praise and mostprofound appreciation from the Hindu spiritual teachers and saints.
After having reached the highest summit of blissful spiritual realization, he declared that Karma, Jnana. Bhakti and Yoga are just components of one glorious path to the supreme goal. His precepts and he confirmed in his own life which he built upon the strong edific of non-attached action. Thus the controversial contradiction between different ways and paths was resolved by Sri Thakur Ji Maharaj harmonising all religious paths and faiths.
